As far as I remember, it was the early '80s. My dad bought his first VCR*, and started to record movies from the TV-broadcasts of Yugoslavian television channel.** Anyways, somehow he managed to get Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece on tape: The Shining, starring Jack Nicholson. For me, as a child, it was temptating: A nice, big vcr-tape, with mystic writing on it: The Shining. For a long time(okay, let's say few days) , a did not dare to watch this movie, I was fighting with the "parental terror", and the growing temptation of the tape.
Then there I was at home, alone. All alone, only with my chance and temptation. I could hardly insert the tape, since the VCR itself was over the tv, on a real high shelf, but finally there it was. I watched it. Couldn't understand a word of it, since it was in english, and the subscription was in serb-croatian, but just I got the mood...which I am never going to forget. I watched the whole movie, but only one scene could burn itself onto my retinae, this one:
I am never ever going to forget this scene, and I bow deeply before Mr. Kubrick and Mr. Nicholson greatness.
Thank you, Gentlemen, it was a great movie!
*which was a big thing back then in Hungary
** we had three channels I reckon: Hungarian I, II,(no broadcasts on mondays) and the Yugoslavian Tv.
p.s.: sorry for the mis-grams, correct me, if you notice something.
